FAQs about shipping from Japan

What's the difference between Yamato (Kuroneko) and Japan Post?

Japan Post handles letters, ゆうパック parcels, and international EMS — it has the widest rural reach. Yamato (黒猫ヤマト / TA-Q-BIN) is a private courier known for time-slot delivery and refrigerated/frozen shipping. Sagawa primarily handles B2B and bulky items. For receiving from overseas marketplaces (Yahoo Auctions, Mercari proxy), Japan Post is most common.

Will Golden Week or Obon delay my shipment?

Yes. Golden Week (late April to early May), Obon (mid-August), and the New Year period (Dec 29 - Jan 3) are the three biggest slowdown windows. Add 2-4 days to typical delivery estimates, and note that customs offices in Japan also operate on reduced staff during these periods.

Can I redirect a Japan Post package to a konbini for pickup?

Yes — Japan Post lets you redirect ゆうパック to a post office or partner convenience store via the e-追跡サービス (e-Tracking) site once the parcel is in the destination prefecture. Yamato offers similar redirection through Kuroneko Members. International EMS into Japan typically cannot be redirected once handed to customs.
